So make sure you click that follow button. New reviews are also posted directly to Twitter, Facebook & Pinterest if you would rather follow me on one of those platforms.
Now, onto why you clicked on this post. Gods and Monsters is soon to be in people’s hands ! Shelby Mahurin’s conclusion to her Serpent & Dove Trilogy will be released on July 27, 2021. Who else is excited? Personally, I want to know how the story ends now. I like it, but I don’t love it. Yanno? I’m committed to it at this point.
I started reading this series purely based on the cover for Book One. I mean, look at it ! It’s gorgeous.
About Serpent & Dove Series
Gold & Black will forever be one of my favourite colour combos but using a serpent for the ‘&’ was genius. I can hardly handle it. So simple & yet so visually stunning at the same time. I love that Mahurin & her team kept the theme for books two and three. I have to say, though, I don’t care for the G&M cover that much, but the tag lines for all three books are beautiful.

Review Serpent & Dove Series by Shelby Mahurin
When I read Serpent & Dove, Blood & Honey was also available to read. In my review for S&D, I said if B&H weren’t available, I probably wouldn’t have kept reading the series. Now, I feel like I’m too invested not to finish it. Funnily enough, I actually enjoyed B&H more than S&D. Lou & Reid’s story is good; it’s just not great. In my opinion, there are other books out there with better world-building & magic systems.
Serpent & Dove Series by Shelby Mahurin and Aphantasia
As someone with Aphantasia, I struggle to understand the world & magic in Mahurin’s story. There is a fine line between too much detail and not enough detail for me. It’s like there isn’t enough explanation in Mahurin’s tale for me to wrap my brain around it completely. It’s described well enough, but the whole thread thing is perplexing. It may have something to do with me liking B&H more. How the “thread magic” works is fleshed out a bit more because Reid had to learn how to use his.
Still, I can’t wait to find out how things end. I will be keeping my eyes on Mahurin for any other books she may release in this world. Particularly the Blood Witches, I do love them.
Serpent & Dove Synopsis Book One by Shelby Mahurin
★ Serpent & Dove Synopsis ★
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.

After narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Dames Blanches, Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel are on the run from coven, kingdom, and church—fugitives with nowhere to hide.
To elude the scores of witches and throngs of chasseurs at their heels, Lou and Reid need allies. Strong ones. But protection comes at a price, and the group is forced to embark on separate quests to build their forces. As Lou and Reid try to close the widening rift between them, the dastardly Morgane baits them in a lethal game of cat and mouse that threatens to destroy something worth more than any coven.

About Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin Book 3 Serpent & Dove
★ Gods & Monsters Synopsis ★
Evil always seeks a foothold. We must not give it one.
After a heartbreaking loss, Lou, Reid, Beau, and Coco are bent on vengeance more than ever before—and none more so than Lou.
But this is no longer the Lou they thought they knew. No longer the Lou that captured a chasseur’s heart. A darkness has settled over her, and this time it will take more than love to drive it out.
