Little Ghost

“At one point in our lives, we don’t know our soulmates at all. But that doesn’t make them any less of one. Sometimes… sometimes you just know.”

Because staring into her eyes is the only thing I needed, to convince myself she’s everything I’ll ever want for as long as oxygen invades my lungs. I knew it deep in my bones the day I met her. Even back then, my soul immediately recognized hers as its other half.

Where’s Molly Review

Minor Spoilers

Where’s Molly by H.D. Carlton is intoxicating dark romance focusing on some extremely disturbing and dark topics. Personally, I enjoyed it, but it will not be everyone’s cup of tea. Molly Deveraux is a character first introduced in Carlton’s Cat and Mouse Duet. Molly was a trafficking victim who eventually escaped Francesca’s house. It is recommended to have read the Cat and Mouse Duet first.

In Where’s Molly we get a dual timeline run down of how Molly came to be in Francesca’s clutches and what she has been doing with her life after escaping. And boy oh boy, the present timeline is fun. Molly now runs a pig farm. These are not your average pigs though. Molly’s pigs enjoy chowing down on the remains of rapists, murders, paedophiles, and other such dirt bags. It is an absolute delight.

The loud crunch of blunt teeth biting through bone is a lullaby I could fall asleep to for the rest of my life.

Where’s Molly cracks open the traumatic past of Molly and the lengths she has gone to protect her younger sister Layla. After escaping Francesca’s, Molly rescues her sister from a future of suffering the same fate. Unable to take care of her long term, Molly eventually finds a family to leave Layla with before disappearing herself.

“Don’t be fooled, little ghost, I will own you even after you’ve disappeared. You may vanish, but your soul will always be mine.”

Enter Cage, a man with his own traumatic past. The loss of his sister led him to a life of falsifying documents and creating new identities for young women in danger. This leads him to Molly. Cage never forgot the woman he gave a new identity to all those years ago. When their paths cross again, he vows to never let her go.

Where’s Molly was a great addition to the Cat and Mouse universe while still standing firmly on its own. The relationship between Cage and Molly is deep and supportive. He is understanding of her trauma and despite Molly’s fears of intimacy, she begins to trust and lean on Cage.

“I want to be the only man on this entire fucking planet that knows what you feel like. And if I’m sharing this knowledge with a single soul still walking this earth, then I will be removing them from it.”

He who was once a rapist and child trafficker is now pig shit. So fucking poetic.

They keep me sane. And the devil knows that’s hanging on by a goddamn thread.

He’s glaring at the two men with distrust and wrath that burn hotter than the underworld beneath our feet.

And it fucking enraged me. Now, she stares at me like a tiny rabbit caught in a trap, squealing to be freed. She escaped me once, and I let her. I won’t allow it a second time.

My obsession won’t let her get out of not telling me every little fucking detail about her life.

She’s fucking perfect for me. Every little facet of her was designed just for me.

“You can’t fix me,” she finishes. “I don’t want to fix you, Molly. There’s nothing to mend when you’ve already done that yourself. The only thing I will do is ensure there isn’t a single part of you that is empty. Your life, your heart, and your sweet pussy.” I lean in closer until my lips lightly rest against hers. “Filling you will never be a waste of my time.”
