Dressed in a sage green bridesmaid dress, and smiling for pictures, Holly is the happiest she’s ever been. Hours later, Holly is dead.
People love to hate Holly Long. Smart, beautiful and a woman who men find it hard to say no to, she’s the town’s most gossiped about resident.
Now Holly’s body lies in her hotel room, strangled at her best friend’s wedding party. And the gossip has stopped, because nobody wants to look like they did it.
When police search Holly’s immaculate apartment, amongst her stylish furnishings and expensive jewellery, they discover a different side to Holly. Orderly and precise, she wasn’t the chaotic party girl everyone thought her to be. In fact, Holly was a planner, and her next plan was to come out and tell her biggest secret – something she had been hiding for months, something that had the potential to ruin the lives of more than one wedding guest.
There are plenty of people who might have wanted to kill Holly, but only one who has finally made good on their promise.

Review
Her Last Mistake by Carla Kovach
Minor Spoilers
Her Last Mistake is book six in the Detective Gina Harte series by the talented Carla Kovach. Although this book didn’t seem to contain as many twists, turns or dangers as past books, it was quite the roller coaster just the same. As usual, Carla’s writing was fantastic. During the prologue we learn our eventual victim, Holly Long is pregnant and her unnamed lover is not happy with her. A month later, during her bestfriends wedding reception, Holly is found dead in her hotel room.
Enter DI Gina Harte, our seriously badass female Detective Inspector. Gina is suppose to be spending time with her daughter & grand daughter when she is called to investigate Holly’s death. I have never liked Gina’s daughter Hannah & she is at peak aggravation during this book. She even finds herself mixed up with one of the many suspects on Gina’s board. But Hannah is just one of Gina’s many problems. Soon a second bridesmaid is found dead. With the second victim, too many suspects & not enough evidence – Gina is running out of time, there were three bridesmaids at the wedding.
It took me a bit to figure this one out. At one point, Gina had two suspects in custody and another two on her board. None of the pieces were fitting together & I felt like none of her suspects were our killer. Gina felt it too and continued to toll away sacrificing everything to catch her killer. I did come up with a suspect, but there is always more to the story then meets the eye. When Gina solved her case and all the pieces fell into place, I was blown by the final twist in the story of who killed Holly Long.
This book, as well as the others in this series, could very well be read as standalones. I wouldn’t suggest that though as you will miss out on all the glory & badassery that is Gina Harte. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about her daughter Hannah though.
