Survive the Night Review

Survive the Night? More like Survive the Book…

Riley Sager is one of my favourite authors. I’ve read all his books. I’ve enjoyed all his books and look forward to reading them. Hell, I’m looking forward to reading his next release too.

This book, though…

Fuck am I ever glad this is not the first Sager book I have read.

First off, I would have DNF’d it for sure. Second, I never would have bothered with another of his books.

As I said, this is not my first book by Sager, and you can check out my opinions on his other books here. I was thrilled with the concept of Survive the Night. I remember the days of no cell phones, hitchhikers & serial killers. With the atmosphere Sager was going for, I was ready to be creeped the fuck out.

Instead, my boyfriend listened to me bitch about the whole thing for the four hours it took to read.

I can’t even bring myself to write a full review. There was literally nothing I liked about the story.

Twenty Thoughts I had While Reading Survive the Night by Riley Sager

Ok then, I’m already tired of Maddy

I’m going to go ahead and say Charlie will be driving by the end of the night.

Digging the Star Wars references. I have never seen Jaws, though.

So, I like Josh?

OMG Cassette’s

Alright, Josh/Jake, you can’t even play 20 questions; I doubt your killer instincts.

Nice window trick, Charlie.

Ok, so did they or didn’t they play 20 questions? I dissociate to Charlie, but wtf man?

For the record, Depersonalization and Dissasociation are not fun. I get where he’s going adding this element into the story…

Why are these books so much shorter than Fantasy? Actually, this one seems exceptionally short.

So Josh/Jake is the Campus Killer? I don’t think so..I mean, already? There’s a lot of book left…

Where are we going with this? Jake’s just going to leave Charlie at the diner? There’s no way this dude is some serial killer…I get that the heat is on, but come on.

Alright there Marge

Wtf am I reading? This has got to be one of the worst books I’ve ever read

Marge, I thought you were an ally?

Everyone follow Marge now, stay in line. Careful now, so you don’t get lost.

A lot to go through to have a convo about your granddaughter there, Marge.

The fuck Josh? Er, Jake?

At least one of these people turned out to be the Campus Killer. Jesus Fuck.

Glad that’s over with.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

On the plus side, Sager’s writing was good. It always is. In many ways, the story was creepy as old fuck. I understand what Charlie was going through, not knowing what was real and what was just in her head. Also, the atmosphere of the early 90s; driving across states with a stranger, no way to contact anyone. But, unfortunately, the plot just well sucked.
