Book One Review : A Fate of Wrath & Flame: An Elven Adventure Unveiled

Thoughts I had while reading A Curse of Blood and Stone
I’m diving into this directly after finishing A Fate of Wrath & Flame. I’m interested to see where this is going. Tensions between immortals and mortals are high in Islor. Queen Neilina’s original plan may not have succeeded but it was successful nonetheless. The seeds of discord have been sowed.
After an orchestrated uprising, Islor’s new Most Wanted fled the city of Cirilea. Romy has confessed who she is and how she came to inhabit Romeria’s body. I suspect we will learn more about the prophecy involving Zander and Romy this time around. I doubt Zander will be pleased. His brother has betrayed him and he’s now a pawn in Malachi’s game.
Jump on down to My Final Thoughts to avoid spoilers.
- Dual POV. Sweet. Also, starting off right where we left off.
- Yup, Zander is not happy at all.
- So that’s what Tyree was alluding to in the dungeon. Queen Neilina’s is a real piece of work.
- Stonekeep is an interesting name.
- Okay but the last time an attempt was made things did not end well.
- What is Malachi up to is right.
- Yes, why is Zander’s affinity so strong? And also slightly out of control atm?
- That’s one way to put it, Zander. And mildly at that.
- He has weighed the options Romy.
- Of course these immortals feed off other immortals.
- Fuck Romy, we get it Atticus betrayed his brother and you were the only one who suspected him.
- Seriously Romy, get your shit together.
- I wish Romy would get the fuck over the blood-drinking slave thing. I get it, it’s wrong. It’s also a different fucking world and Rome wasn’t built in a gd day.
- I mean, you were only King for a hot minute there Zander. But your dad definitely should have been keeping a better eye on his Kingdom.
- I almost hope Romy does run. The grass is not always greener. The devil you know, yanno.
- I like Gesine, she knows how to play the game.
- Multiple prophecies.
- Yay Wendeline.
- The nerve of Romy saying Eden is ignorant and needs to be more aware to survive.
- You are still in Eden’s shoes Romy.
- Honestly, if Romy doesn’t quit her fucking bitching about the mortals I might scream.
- Of course, they aren’t listening to you, Romy. You act like a petulant child. You know nothing, Romy Watts from New York.
- I like when my chosen ones deserve to be chosen.
- Why am I almost halfway through book two and still being told by Romeria what Zander’s vision is for Islor?
- Aoife knows!
- What did Romy do now?
- Yep, about to cause a scene.
- At least Pan got some smarts about him.
- Sneaky little fucker too.
- I mean, just let him bite you and this song and dance is over.
- I knew you would say it Romy. The grass. It’s always the grass.
- I’m starting to wonder if I like this enough to deal with Romy in another book.
- Why Wendeline chose that particular symbol is a puzzle piece I need.
- Pretty sure neither Eden nor Jarek requires Romy’s permission. And Jarek isn’t nearly as bad as Romy thinks.
- Malachi wants Elijah’s body for his own?
- A Sofie chapter !
- It’s not going to be Elijah walking out of The Nulling.
- Idk why Malachi doesn’t want Zander’s body either. Unless he is banking on both Zander and Romeria being destroyed when the door opens.
- Here we go again. I wonder what kind of stunt Romy pulls this time.
- Nice try, Zander. I see what you are doing but I doubt it’s going to work.
- The worst of this all is Romy will somehow save the day.
- So this is Ulysede.
- Bold move Atticus.
A Curse of Blood and Stone Review
I had high hopes for A Curse of Blood and Stone, but Romeria killed them all. After finishing A Fate of Wrath and Flame, I had hoped Romeria would stop her whining. She didn’t and it bothered me to no end, in fact, it got worse. Honestly, I should have known better. She has more things to cry about now. The girl is all bark, and she has tiny dog syndrome.
I devoured A Fate of Wrath and Flame in a handful of days, but I kept putting book two down. The plot bored me and Romeria drove me nuts. When I did find myself getting into the story, Romeria opened her mouth or did something ridiculous. She is continuously sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. Including discussions and decisions that have nothing to do with her and are none of her business. Her own prejudices run deep and yet she yells at everyone else for theirs.
In many ways, Romeria is just as bad as the Islorians and Ysbarians. You do not walk into someone else’s home and start ripping up their carpet because you prefer hardwood floors. Romy can’t see beyond mortals being used as blood bags. It’s a good thing they found Ulysede because The Four Horsemen are coming, and the Black Horse of Famine is leading the way.
A Curse of Blood and Stone is written from both Romeria’s and Zander’s points of view. The chapters from Zander were short and in my opinion, only there because Romeria was being kept in the dark. They added to the story simply because Zander wanted to filter the information available to Romeria. We are treated with a chapter from Sofie and Atticus as well. Neither chapter added to the overall story. Reminders that those characters are alive and pulling strings.
The jury is out on whether I will read book three, A Queen of Thieves and Chaos when it comes out. I enjoyed the first book, but this one just didn’t do anything for me. The majority of this story is told from Romeria’s point of view but I struggle with her inability to see the forest for the trees.

…these casters from Mordain have been spinning a web of duplicity so thick, no one can see from one side to the other.
They’ve made passage by ship impossible for any immortal, sniffing them out like bloodhounds on a scent.
My heart pangs with sorrow at the sight of him.
On their own, they may seem nothing more than confused prattling, but when pieced together, they paint an ominous picture of what may come to pass.
Trust is easy enough to lose even after it is gained.
Islor must fall before it can rise, and the queen of two moons shall reign as none other before her.
