My thoughts while reading Prince of Deception
Rian. Swoon. Prince of Deception is Rian’s story and companion novel to A Cursed Heart. I’m excited to read more about Aveen and learn more about Rian. Aveen is my favorite sister. Let’s see if Prince of Deception makes Rian my favorite brother.
To avoid spoilers you can skip down to my Final Thoughts.
- Right, Tadhg and Rian have different mothers, who happen to be sisters. I think.
- No wonder poor Rian is obsessed with his clothes.
- Did I know Rian drank blood?
- This must be the night of Rian’s curse. And on his birthday no less.
- If some lies taste sweet and some bitter, how’s he know what’s a lie?
- Ngl I love the Queen. I think I like her over the witch that cursed Tadhg..
- He just had fish for dinner.
- I forget which sister gave Charlie the coin but it must have been Aveen.
- I love Padraig.
- Fucking Robert.
- Ambassador Flirt.
- I love how committed Rian is to his human personas.
- All to make her spoiled sister happy. Ugh. It’s why I don’t like Keelynn.
- Mud fight.
- A cottage by the sea with a garden. One of the reasons why I love Aveen.
- I love how Rian has named Aveen based on her moods.
- Knowing Rian’s about to find himself engaged to Keelyn after this ball makes it even more hilarious.
- Phil the one horned goat.
- I bought you a cottage. It’s hideous. You’re going to love it.
- Oh Shit, Tadhg has met Keelyn.
- Exactly what the bastard deserved for killing Padraig.
- Keelyn and Tadhg got married? How did I forget that?
- Poor Rian has had enough.
- Fuck I love Rian.
- Aw man, just love him to bits.
- Ngl I forgot how A Cursed Heart ended.
- The Queen should get her own book.
- You should definitely have told Aveen about Mommy dearest.
- I thought Keelyn killed Robert.
- It should come as no surprise that I also don’t remember Aveen having fae abilities & weaknesses.
- Oh right, the cursed blade. & Aveen can’t use it.
- Well damn. What are you going to do about this Rian?
Prince of Deception Review
I am officially in love with Rian. Can I end the review here?
I enjoyed Rian’s story more than Tadhg’s. When I originally read A Cursed Kiss & Heart, Aveen was my girl. I loved her and I still do. I genuinely liked Tadhg more than his brother Rian at the time. Prince of Deception changed that. Despite knowing the why of his words and actions in A Cursed Heart, you really fall in love with him in the companion novel. I melted for the inner workings of Rian’s brain.
When I read Prince of Seduction, the companion novel to A Cursed Kiss, Keeylyn’s tale was still fresh in my head. It’s been a year since I was in Airren, so I was able to escape more into the story this time around. I forgot so much of A Cursed Heart, Rian’s story felt fresh and exciting to me.
I cannot wait to find out what happens next in A Cursed Love, which I believe is to be released in November of this year. All four points of view will come together for the conclusion, which is kind of exciting. I really enjoy how Hickman has put this series together. Although the series started off with Tadhg and Keelyn, adding in Aveen, ultimately I feel like this is Rian’s story. The big bad is his mother after all.

I swore I felt my absent heart beat for the first time since the Queen had stolen it from me.
If you were to cut me open, even my soul would be black. Assuming I still had one.
When I ripped myself away from her, it felt as if someone had torn me in two. She’d stolen a piece of me- a piece I would never get back.
What was it about this woman that made me so feckin’ soft? I needed to kill someone.
I was no hero. I’d lie, steal and kill to get what I wanted.
She returned my grin. If I had a heart, it would’ve been pounding.
I would unravel her, thread by glorious threat. Stealing her sanity the way she’d stolen mine, until I became every wayward thought, the air she breathed.
I felt my missing heart beat. It’s beating for her.
When I touch her, there’s a spark that burns brighter than the light of a thousand candles. Every fiber in my being yearns for her.
Wherever my absent heart was, I imagined it galloping like a herd of wild horses.
I longed to be nearer to her light, to let her cull the darkness from the deepest parts of me.
My darkness writhed, begging for her. Something akin to hope swelled within me. A dangerous, addictive thing.
For her I would kneel. For her I would bow. For her I would live in the feckin’ dirt.
Bedding violent Aveen lived at the top of my list of goals. It may have even been above vengeance.
But villains didn’t get happily-ever-afters. Those belonged to the heroes.
