Book One Review : Fae of the Roaring Age: Dark Magic and Romance
Once upon a dreary summer, two lonely children met in a meadow. And thus they swore on love and blood that nothing would keep them apart. Not titles. Not magic. Not time. Not even death.

Thoughts I had while reading The Veil of Violence
Daddy Jack is back baby.
To avoid the possibility of spoilers, skip on down to My Final Thoughts.
Please note : I was sent an ARC of The Veil of Violence by Marilyn Marks and her team in exchange for my honest opinions.

- Mom’s spaghetti.
- Was Annwyl the wraith? The Woman in White? Was that even this book..
- Also, was Adeline a reincarnated Annwyl?
- Is a beansidhe a banshee?
- So a beansidhe is a Fate?
- You must always trust in Jaevidan.
- Violet freely giving up information seems a little suspicious.
- Guinevere & Arthur must have been lovers at some point.
- Just another Tuesday.
- My wife !
- Master of the Shade.
- I hope Jack’s brothers came to a painful death.
- Do I forget what got Jack banished?
- I fucking love mythical creatures.
- This captain is a bit suspicious.
- & there it is.

- So why doesn’t Jack just go home?

My Final thoughts on The Veil of Violence
My heart broke for poor Jack.
The Veil of Violence is a dual point of view story. The first point of view is from Addie’s vantage point as she comes to terms with being transformed into a beansidhe. We also get Jack’s point of view, or rather, Jaevidan. All Jack’s chapters take place in the past, before he becomes the Banished Prince and takes on the moniker of Jack Warren.
Addie has really come into her own in The Veil of Violence. Gone is the timid child of The Prince of Prohibition. Replaced with a strong willed and determined woman. Not only is Addie coming to terms with her new powers and role in life, but centuries worth of memories from her past lives. Through Jack’s chapters we learn about her first lifetime. The life that set our story in motion. The life of Annwyl.
With every memory gifted to Addie, I fell more in love with Jack.
Honestly, I think I liked the first book more. Don’t get me wrong, I liked this one. I just liked The Prince of Prohibition more. That being said, I forgot a lot of what took place in book one. So it took me a while to get into The Veil of Violence. I really need to start considering rereads. I had a lot of questions, and for the life of me couldn’t remember if I was supposed to know the answers.
Ultimately, I feel like The Prince of Prohibition was faster paced, with higher stakes and more action. While The Veil of Violence gives us more insight into Jack and his actions. The Prince of Prohibition was more sex, drugs and rock & roll. The Veil of Violence was more of a slow burn tromp through a great love affair spanning centuries.
I have no idea when book three, Empress of Everything will be released, but after the ending of The Veil of Violence, it’s not going to be soon enough. The more twists and turns a story has, the higher the likelihood of me loving it. The major twist at the end of The Veil of Violence shook me to the core and I need to know what happens next.

I was no longer the scared little girl under is care. I was a woman, a powerful woman embroiled in something neither of us understood.
You must always trust in Jaevidan. This is the only way to remain in the light.
The taste of him was the perfect poison I remembered.
We should have done something, but deep in my soul, I knew they were already dead.
Blood pooled around her like a growing halo, expanding on the floor in a crimson ring of death.
I think you are important. You are the most important person in the world to me.
Those damn feelings again. They swam up from the deep, pounding against the surface for release.
For an immortal to die is a sadness, but to be forgotten is a tragedy.
Belladonna bloomed where I walked, and foxglove rose from my half-finished meals.
He actually smiles now, Addie, and it’s been so rare for so long it’s honestly strange to see.
Golden eyes hovered a mere foot away. My salvation, little suns in the dark.
I would rather die now on the right side than live forever on the wrong one.
It is for me to protect you, Annwyl. It is for me to be the monster, to love you the most. If you cannot be, then I will be your violence.
Precious things do not last long for righteous men. They become the weapons that ruin them.
I would burn myself to save the world. Jack would burn the world to save me.
Goodness, hope, love. Because through our cruel worlds and cruel lives, he was my violence and I his happiness.
I follow the Poison King and his Golden Goddess. Long may they reign.
