Genevieve Grimm has felt adrift ever since her sister became the head of the family. So when a mysterious friend of their mother’s invites her to Italy, she accepts. She arrives at his grand palace, expecting passion and magic, decadence and luxury… perhaps even a midnight ball.

She doesn’t expect the owner’s ruthlessly handsome son to slam the door in her face. Rowin Silver is tall, dark, and exceptionally rude, and invitation or not, he demands Genevieve leave and never come back. But Genevieve follows nobody’s orders, especially those of arrogant rich boys. She slips inside—and immediately discovers her mistake.

Rowin and his family are caught in an insidious game of hide and seek, where only one can win. The rest will be trapped in Hell… until the competition begins again.

Genevieve must either join the hunt or forfeit any hope of escaping. But to her dismay, her best chance of survival lies with Rowin. Since lovers may play as a pair, Rowin and Genevieve agree to form an alliance under the guise of a fake courtship. However, as they race through the game’s elaborate labyrinth, trapped among gleaming gold and shining marble, their loathing gives way to irresistible attraction. Only Rowin is keeping secrets, especially when it comes to his ruthless family, and Genevieve can’t help but wonder if she’s trapped in two treacherous games: Enchantra and the one Rowin is playing with her heart.

Wicked Games by Name

She had a Devil’s game to play. And this time, she wouldn’t be leaving until she won.

Trouble

“If you wanted to be choked, all you had to do was ask,” he murmured as he crouched before her, reaching up to brush the pad of his thumb over the tender skin of her throat. “I wouldn’t have left any marks.”

“Shadows can only be seen in the presence of light,” he told her, the words agonized. “I worry when you leave, there will be no one left to see me.”

I picked Phantasma up on a whim back in January and absolutely loved it. I am hooked on the world Kaylie Smith has created. I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was wonderful. Laura Horowitz did an amazing job and is also narrating Enchantra. There’s no doubt that Horowitz will knock it out of the park again. I am anticipating this being another five star read from Smith.

Enchantra by Kaylie Smith Review

The second installment of Kaylie Smith’s Wicked Games series is just as wickedly delightful as Phantasma. Smith delivers an enchanting world of deadly games and steamy romance in the sequel Enchantra. This time around, a twisted game of hide and seek. I enjoyed the Circles of Hell game from Phantasma more than the Hide and Seek game of Enchantra. Hide and Seek was mild in comparison.

Genevieve is a Specter and younger sister to Phantasma star, Ophelia. And the girl has got questions. A lot of questions. I wasn’t sure how much I would like Genevieve based off the limited interactions in Phantasma. Somehow though, I loved her even more than Ophelia. She was witty, inquisitive, feisty, and absolutely brilliant.

Genevieve’s quest for answers brings her to the gates of Enchantra, home of the Immortal Silver family.  Her arrival comes at the worst time, the seven Silver siblings are moments away from being trapped in their home. Stripped of all their magic and forced to play Hide and Seek for entertainment.

“It has been decided that you will enter the Hunt as Rowington’s wife.”

Genevieve’s best chance at surviving the deadly demonic game is to marry Rowin Silver. An absolutely delicious Shadow Wraith and reluctant heir to the Enchantra estate. Together they must convince both the demonic audience and game host, Knox, of their love. They must win the game – or die.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rowin, perhaps even more than Phantasma’s Salem. The relationship he builds with Genevieve is romantic, tender and all consuming. I do however, wish we got more from Rowin in a dual pov story. I wanted his heart and soul ripped out and put on pages for me to consume.

“The light isn’t something you need to chase, Genevieve. The light is wherever you are,” he told her.

Rowin’s siblings were an absolute delight and dysfunctional af. Any family forced to murder each other yearly in exchange for another year with their mother would be though. There will be a third book in the series, confirmed at the end of Enchantra. No title that I am aware of yet but my bet is on Nocturnia or some variation.

Smith’s writing is just as magical and captivating this time around as the first. I can not wait to read what she dreams up next. I relished in Horowitz’s narration of Phantasma and she did not disappoint with Enchantra. She does a wonderful job bringing male characters to life without pulling you abruptly from the story with the switch.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Quotes

Wicked Games Quotes

Hell was made of swirling darkness and secrets just like the man in front of her.

The last time his shadows were wrapped around her like this, there was much less clothing between them.

A garbled shriek bubbled out of her mouth as he ripped her heart out of her body and held it between them. Bright- red blood began to bloom across her corset as she gaped down at the hole he had made inside her.

Her eyes squeezed shut as one of the tendrils gently circled her throat while his warm lips pressed to the underside of her jaw, sending a shiver down her spine.

She saw the moment his resolve finally snapped, and before she could blink, he was in front of her, the tendrils of his shadows pushing her gently back into the wall.

“It’s never easy to realize that the people who are supposed to protect us are the ones who can create the deepest scars.”

“I am not him,” Rowin snarled. “I want to find him and flay all the flesh from his body and set him on fire for what he did to you. Don’t ever compare me to him.”
