As soon as I finished reading The Wolf King, I picked up The Night Prince. As far as I am aware, The Wolf King series will be a trilogy. I have found little to no information about the third book. I am hoping there will not be a significant delay in its release. The series is currently moving from being independently published to traditionally published.

The Night Prince Review

Minor Night Prince Spoilers.

The Night Prince is book two in Lauren Palphreyman’s Werewolf romantasy series, The Wolf King. Does it bother anyone else when the first book in the series is also the title of the series? Just me? The romantic love triangle aspect of the story has taken root and the plot is really starting to gain momentum.

Callum’s brother, James took a play out of his brother’s playbook- attempting to trade Aurora for The Heart of the Moon. Which technically he did succeed in doing. However, Aurora kills her fiance Sebastian and escapes his clutches. Only to be bitten by James. At this point, my personal suspicions were validated- Aurora is half wolf. I maintain that there is still something more to her. Likely not to be revealed until the third book.

Blake just claimed me as his. His lips are stained red with my blood.

At the end of The Wolf King the mate bond between my man Blake and Aurora is revealed. Blake is my preferred Alpha. The more morally grey the better in my opinion. To save Aurora’s life after James bit her, Blake uses his life force to pull her back from the brink-tethering the two of them together. Was it just another manipulative tactic? Of course. However, I personally believe there is more to be revealed about this bond.

Aurora drove me nuts in The Night Prince. I find both her and Callum to be extremely naive. Blake is playing chess, and Aurora and Callum are playing checkers. In my opinion, the growth of Aurora’s character stagnates in The Night Prince. I get it, she has a lot to deal with-the bond, and the fact that she is half-wolf. For me, it took her way too long to come to terms with the fact that she is half-wolf. I get dragging your feet on the bond, really I do. But girl, you are half-wolf suck it the fuck up.

In the end, Aurora does finally accept and step into her power. Now that she has done so, I am hopeful for a stronger and more fierce Aurora going forward. I feel as though The Wolf King series as a whole, would be better as a multi pov story. The single pov from Aurora in book one, The Wolf King, was fine. Callum’s perspective could have made it better. Expanding on this and adding Blake’s perspective in The Night Prince would have broken up Aurora’s constant and repetitive internal monologues.

Overall, I enjoy the plot unfolding. The world has expanded beyond humans vs. werewolves. The dark and nefarious God of Night has moved to the forefront of the story. Threatening both the Northern Wolf Kingdom and the Southern Human Kingdom. I am looking forward to the conclusion.
