After being framed for murder, I never thought I’d be back inside these walls again. And if I thought I’d be able to make a quiet return, I was dead wrong.

My secrets have been spilled but little did I know it would be the catalyst. Monsters are creeping out of the darkness, eager for blood.

Now, the biggest question remains—who are the true unhinged?

Echoes by Steph Macca

Welcome back to Lilydale.

I immediately started listening to Echoes the moment I finished Unhinged. When I started this series, it was during a little heatwave in the summer. At the time, only the first three books and audiobooks were published. I legit spent that entire heatwave in a kiddie pool, rolling around like a beached whale, listening to this series.

Spoilers Sweetie : Jump to my Final Thoughts to avoid them.

  1. & back to Lilydale we go.
  2. I mean, these triggers.
  3. Fuck I love this.
  4. I’m listening on 2.25x and they all sound delightful.
  5. Oh you’re not done with Avery at all Grey.
  6. Oh Theo. You’re gonna have to reassure Avery about everything.
  7. They will never learn to aim.
  8. Oh he’ll give in. Eventually.
  9. I love how Grey uses the word cunt so freely.
  10. Yay.
  11. I’ll fuck her in his blood. Dead.
  12. The banter between Theo and Grey is killing me.
  13. You are definitely unique Theo.
  14. Made him take a bite.
  15. Oh you care Damon.
  16. I thought he was asking Damon!
  17. Damon is falling.
  18. They kissed !
  19. Fuck me.
  20. What kind of experiments?!?

Echoes Dance With My Demons Review

Echoes is the second installment to Steph Macca’s Dance With My Demons series. A dark, why choose, asylum romance with a side of secret society. Echoes picks up the moment after the Unhinged cliffhanger. Avery has been framed for the murder of another patient. The more insidious side of the Lilydale Foundation is coming to light. The secret society within it, Cirque des Morts, is revealed as a resistance of sorts, fighting the cruelty of the Foundation and protecting its members.

Deeming the murder a suicide, Avery is sent right back to Lilydale under strict conditions. She finds herself at the mercy of the foundation. In an attempt to manipulate and break her, Avery is subjected to both physical and psychological abuse from the staff. They want information about her friends and Cirque des Morts members. Avery resists and the torture escalates.

She tastes like Heaven. My fallen angel. If God exists, he must be sick. Who would send a divine creature like her into the Devil’s lair? And now she’s stuck with me.

Echoes continues with the narration style established in Unhinged. It is told in a full cast duet narration, and it is perfect. This time around, we get more chapters from the men in Avery’s life. Grey and Theo are still my favorites of the trio, but we do get a better understanding of who Damon is. Once the layers began to peel away from him, the more I came around to his character. Ultimately we learn more about his connections to the Foundation.

“He marked you in his own way,” Grey murmurs. “Now, I’m going to mark you in mine.”

The reverse harem-why choose aspect of the Dance With My Demons series gains more ground in Echoes. However, the plot is a bit slower than Unhinged. Avery navigates her feelings for both Grey and Theo. Grey wants Avery to himself and Theo is down for whatever makes Avery happy.

The Lilydale Foundation is a real piece of work. You really begin to question who the bad guys are in Echoes. The patients are unhinged, violent offenders with severe mental illnesses but the institution might be worse. Echoes does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to dive right into Ravage.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

If anyone lays a single finger on her, bruising her perfect skin, I’ll soak them in gasoline and make a bonfire.

“When you go to heaven one day, I’ll drag you back down to hell to join me. Because I’m never leaving you, Avery.”
