After the cliffhanger in Hollow, I immediately picked up Legend. And boy I’m glad this was a completed duet and I didn’t have to wait for the conclusion.

Major Hollow Spoilers

Katrina Van Tassel belongs to Brom Bones—it is written in the stars, scored in the earth, burned in the ashes, and the more you get involved, the more your life will be at stake.

Legend picks up right after the cliffhanger that was Hollow.

Legend is the conclusion to Karina Halle’s Gothic Shade of Romance Duet. A dark academia, why choose, retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. With a side of taboo goodness in the age gap, student x teacher dynamics, this duet is perfect for those wishing to dip their toe into those topics while still enjoying a well thought-out plot forward story. Although, fair warning, there is a three chapter sex ritual in Legend.

Brom is the Headless Horseman & The Hessian is out for heads.

We know who The Headless Horseman is but there is a larger, overarching mystery surrounding his arrival. The Hessian was summoned and bound to Brom. As our trio works to figure out who and why, they also must keep The Hessian subdued. Brom struggles to control the violent paranormal entity residing in him. Alas, more townsfolk end up headless. I liked Brom, and prefer him to Crane. Crane and his possessiveness really got on my nerves this time around.

The puzzle that is Kat’s powerful family is front and center in Legend. Their connections to the horseman and their sinister plans for him are uncovered by the trio. Honestly, the only decent person in Kat’s family was her father. Unfortunately prior to Hollow, the mother literally sucked him dry of all his magic sending him to an early grave. Kat’s mother and aunts are all unbelievably selfish power hungry women, but Kat’s mother takes the cake.

Legend is definitely the spicier of the two books. Unfortunately, I did find the plot suffered a bit because of it. I could have done with a more in-depth look into the Sleepy Hollow Institute and the coven. Due to the amount of spice, three chapter long sex ritual-I’m looking at you, the plot meanders along at times. That being said, the spice be spicy my friends. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Halle’s Sleepy Hollow retelling.
