Flawless by Elsie Silver Review

Flawless is the first book in the Chestnut Springs cowboy romance series by Elsie Silver. Generally speaking, Flawless is not something I would gravitate towards. I’m not a contemporary romance girl. The Chestnut Springs series is wildly popular though and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Chestnut Springs is a small fictional town in the very real province of Alberta, Canada. A province I just happen to reside in. I also just so happened to have purchased Flawless in a small town just like Chestnut Springs.

I can rule contemporary cowboy romances off any future tbr plans. That’s not to say Flawless is a bad book. I did enjoy it. I liked the fictional town and references to Alberta. I liked both of the main characters, Rhett and Summer. I even liked Silver’s writing. Flawless is well written. But, it is a character driven story with low stakes. The internal conflict of our main characters was not enough to keep me invested in the story. The romance was also far too soft and fluffy for me.

I won’t be continuing the Chestnut Springs series. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try. The series is popular for a reason. If you like slow burn, contemporary romances, you’ll likely love this. It’s chock full of romantic tension and cute moments between Summer and Rhett. The spice was well written. It just was not for me. Rhett is a rodeo star and Summer is the daughter of his agent. I had hoped that the forbidden side of the romance would be enough to keep me excited about Flawless. Ultimately though, it wasn’t.

I feel like I was too old for Flawless and this would be better for someone younger than my forty two years. I’m over the emotional conflicts that Silver’s characters were going through. I’ve learned all those lessons. In the end, there was nothing keeping me in Chestnut Springs.
