Did I drop everything to listen to the third and final installment to Navessa Allen’s Into Darkness series? Why yes, yes I did. I’m a bit leery going into Game On, the mmc, Tyler, is meh. He’s Josh’s best friend and has made appearances in both Lights Out and Caught Up but he’s really just been some dude hanging out in the background. We shall see how I feel about him when everything is said and done.

Major Spoilers for Into Darkness series
Paired with her cropped band tee, barely-there ripped shorts, fishnets, combat boots and innumerable tattoos, she looked like the poster child for depressed millennials.
Game On is the final installment to Navessa Allen’s insanely popular Into Darkness series. Into Darkness is an interconnected series-reading all of the books or reading them in order is not a requirement. In fact, you may enjoy it more having no preconceived notions of the mmc. We first meet our mmc, Tyler, in book one, Lights Out. He is the best friend and roommate of Josh. I never minded Tyler, but I didn’t like him that much either. He shows up again in the second book, Caught Up. Again, Tyler was just there and I really just was not vibing with him. I wasn’t sure how much I would like Game On because of my feelings or lack thereof towards Tyler. However, I knew Allen was going to write a good story and I knew she would write a killer fmc. What I wasn’t expecting was to like Tyler.

The highlight of Game On for me was the fmc, Stella. She was the definition of amazing. Her personality and humor were fantastic. She was extremely relatable and a genuinely good person. Stella is my favorite fmc of the series. Hands down. No questions asked. I liked Aly (Lights Out) and I thought Lauren (Caught Up) was a powerful, seductive, and confidently sexual woman. But personality wise, I vibe best with the poster child for depressed millennials. The banter between Stella and Tyler was in my opinion, the best of the series. The two characters worked well together, complementing each other and ultimately, making Tyler less of a douche canoe.
He was a glorified sex toy, and I was going to use him to get myself off before I even thought about releasing him from the order.
Tyler is a brat. And that trait automatically made him a better character. Also, we do get to know him on a deeper level. So obviously that helps. In Game On we get a better understanding of what is behind the attitude and mask he wears in Lights Out & Caught Up. Is Tyler my favorite mmc? No, but I can appreciate him now and can honestly say, I ended up liking him in the end. Tyler’s personality was fueled by childhood trauma. His revenge and blackmail? A response to the lies and abandonment. The personal development and growth he goes through in Game On is fantastic. Allen writes Tyler in a way that leaves you feeling compassionate for a blond man.

I haven’t seen much backlash surrounding Game On like I did with Caught Up. Which quite frankly, isn’t surprising. There’s some real assholes out there. Not only did I see complaints about Lauren’s occupation and friend group but people mad that it wasn’t Lights Out. I fear people will lose out on Game On simply because they cannot or will not look past those things. Game On was a great read. Allen’s writing is consistent. The plot, spice and characters are all a jolly fun time.
