All it takes is eight seconds for your world to come crashing to a halt. What happens when you’re injured, stuck with the one man who makes your blood heat in a way you’ve never experienced before?
I’ve been on a path to redemption. Kayce Wilder, former screw-up. The bareback bronc rider with big dreams. I had it all figured out.
Only, I didn’t count on a ride gone wrong to leave me with no other option than to ask for his help. Zeke Rainer. Raine. The gruff cowboy covered in tattoos, surrounded by mysteries.
We’ve been at odds forever. Rivals in the arena. Two rodeo riders in pursuit of the same buckle . . . before he left me behind, without warning.
My stepbrother.
When urgent help is needed to run the ranch, he’s the last person I want to be relying on for a favor. As the fall nights lengthen, tension and angst thicken the more time we spend alone together.
I shouldn’t be noticing so many small details—especially not how strong his hands look while working with the horses—and I certainly shouldn’t be wondering if he thinks about me as much as I think about him.
I’ve never been attracted to a man before. It would be unthinkable to be drawn to him. Wouldn’t it?

Review
Saving the Rain by Elliott Rose
Minor Spoilers
Major Spoiler for Chasing the Wild
I certainly don’t need to spend any more time thinking about my stepbrother, or what he’s doing in Crimson Ridge.
Saving the Rain by Elliot Rose is the fourth and final full length novel from the taboo cowboy romance series, Crimson Ridge. I received a finished physical copy of Saving the Rain from the publisher but I actually decided to immersive read it. I heard great things about the audio and I mean, it’s Teddy Hamilton. How could I not? As always, these are my honest thoughts and opinions. & Spoiler alert: I loved it. Honestly, wasn’t sure I would. In fact, three of the four books in the Crimson Ridge series I wasn’t sure I would love. Two of those ended up blowing the one book I knew I would like out of the water. In Elliott Rose we trust around here.
It’s annoying as hell because he’s all flushed lips, razor-sharp cheekbones, and a slight curl to his hair. Acting all innocent.
Saving the Rain is a mm step brothers romance and not why I was hesitant about reading it, just to be clear. I simply did not like Kayce Wilder. We first meet him as Layla’s pos ex boyfriend in Chasing the Wild. and I was like, this guy is a douche canoe. Granted, I read book 2 before I read the first book but it wasn’t until the third book that I finally started to come around to him. And I am so glad I did. Truth be told, Kayce is a baby when we meet him in Chasing the Wild. He’s grown since then and if the Crimson Ridge crew can forgive him, so can I.
Surely I need to pluck my eyeballs from my skull, because, hell no, I did not just look at him and feel butterflies.
We learn a lot about Kayce’s childhood in Saving the Rain. If you guessed it wasn’t good, you would in fact be correct. You would also be correct if you followed that thought to its logical conclusion; that his step brother, Raine, did not have a great childhood either. Both these boys grew up in an abusive and toxic household. Rose goes into Kayce & Raine’s childhoods more than any other characters in the series. It’s not just a passing comment or tidbit of information about the characters. Their history is part of their love story. In my opinion, Saving the Rain is heavier and more emotional than the previous books, while still retaining all the humour, spice, banter and vibes of the series.
Staring at your stepbrother’s dick, like a little slut.
Kayce has been hard at work to turn his life around in the years since Chasing the Wild and it shows. This boy picked himself up by his little cowboy bootstraps and shown tremendous growth. Only, Raine never got that memo. He shows up in Crimson Ridge thinking Kayce is still that same kid he grew up with. It was adorable watching these two navigate and reconcile their old feelings for each other with the new ones. Hamilton & Anderson do an amazing job bringing these two cowboys to life and portraying the tension and yearning between the two of them.
“You want to be a brat? Or do you want to be a good boy for me?”
Saving the Rain is now my favorite Crimson Ridge novel. I thought Taming the Heart was. Truly. Then I read Kayce & Raine’s story and my ranking instantly changed. I wasn’t anticipating being emotionally devastated by these two cowboys. I’m not sure I will ever get over Raine’s actual name being Zeke though.
Why did it feel so right with him? Why does it have to be him?
Quotes
Saving the Rain Quotes
He’s as sweet as I remember, and the lingering scent of pine and the dewiness of the mist outside fills my awareness.
His words dissolve into the sluttiest little noise when I start kissing the side of his throat. Goddamn, the way that turns me feral.
His stare is wider than ever. Big blue orbs with pupils almost fully blown out. Kayce looks like my next fucking meal.
My stepbrother, who just turned my entire life inside out with a few strokes and touches and dirty words in my ear.
I lose time in that kiss.
Stooping a little, I hook a finger beneath his chin and give him one last look, with lust and anticipation scorching a blazing trail straight through my body. Lowering my head, I kiss him with all the conviction that he needs to taste coming from my mouth.
But the nagging voice in the back of my head says beware. He’ll wake up one day and see all those broken pieces and decide I’m not worth the effort.
My golden boy who has no idea the lengths I’d go to if it meant keeping him protected. And now, in this new connection between us, to support him in being happy.
