Reading Wrap Up : April 2025

2025 Reading Goals

This year, I set my reading goal to 15. Low, I know. But in 2024 I read two books. So 15 books was looking a bit lofty. So far this year though, I’ve read twenty nine books. This month I read six. Let’s get into it.

Anathema : A spellbinding gothic dark fantasy

I started the month off listening to Anathema by Kerri Lake. This was my second try at one of Lake’s books. I had attempted to read Nightshade sometime ago but dnf’d it. I am glad I didn’t let that deter me, and picked up Anathema. The vibes were everything. I listened to the audio version of Anathema, and it was great. The world is dark and intricate with the narration grounding you in the story.

Anathema is part of The Eating Woods duology. Book two, Eldritch, is scheduled for release in September 2025.

The Oracle of Dust : Epic Fantasy Romance

Next up was the arc, The Oracle of Dusk by Elyse Thomson. I enjoyed the first entry in Thomson’s Cycle of Calamity series. The Legend of Zelda vibes are strong in this epic fantasy romance.

The Oracle of Dust is scheduled for release May 28, 2025

The Hunger Games

I listened to The Hunger Games on audio this month. Here’s the thing, I really want to read the new books The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping. Can I suffer through the original trilogy first is the question. I was never a Hunger Games girl and legit watched the movies for the first time last year.

Bride : A Vampire-Werewolf Marriage of Convenience

I had (mostly) listened to Deep End back in March. I liked it enough to give Ali Hazelwood another try. I am glad I did because I did enjoy Bride and I will likely read Mate. I doubt I’ll be in a big hurry to read anything else though.

Grave Matter : A Dark Gothic Romance Psych Thriller

I will never understand how Karina Halle can pump out so many releases a year. Grave Matter wasn’t a five star read for me, but it was still good. Ultimately I think I just didn’t like the characters enough.

Good Game: A Bad Boy Gaming Romance

Last up for completed books for the month of April is Madison Fox’s Good Game. The secret identity trope lasted way too long for me in this gamer romance. I’m still planning on reading the next book in the series, Forbidden Game, now that that trope is out of the way.
