Monthly Wrap Up : May 2025
What the fuck happened to May? I swear I just did one of these. But here we are, back for another wrap up. How did your May go? I ended up reading seven books this month. Drop me a comment and let me know what you read this month!
The Petty Reasons I DNF Books
I dnf’d my first book of the year this month, Hollow Hellion by Jodie King. I literally could not get over the MMC calling the FMC Little Dolly. It was too juvenile for me, and gave me a case of the ick. Very reminiscent of the time I dnf’d Lore by Alexandra Bracken because the main characters name was Lore. I just could not.
Port Macabre by Elliott Rose: A polyamorous collection of red flags

We don’t kink shame here at Noire House.
Honestly, I think Port Macabre is my new favorite Why Choose Romance. Maybe. I still really fucking love Nikki St. Crowe’s Vicious Lost Boys series. Ultimately, the two series are very different -so I can have two favorites right? I mean, why choose?

Enigma: A Dark Academia Romance

Enigma was not for me. The setting and general vibes of the story were lovely. RuNyx’s writing is delightful. The pace however, meandered about going nowhere of interest. The plot did have potential-what with the murder mystery and all, but ended up being mediocre at best. I did enjoy the characters but there wasn’t nearly enough Caz. I would have liked more from him.

That Sik Luv: Love, Obsession and Trauma

Not counting Hollow Hellions by Jodie King, That Sik Luv by Jescie Hall was my least favorite book of the month. While I didn’t dnf it, That Sik Luv was my least favorite book of the month. I had high hopes for it too, seeing as it is everywhere on my booksta feed.

Camelot Untold: Realm of Ruin

One of the last things I read before falling into a year and a half long plus reading slump was Realm of Sin by K.C. Kingmaker from the Camelot Untold series. I remember liking it, and I have notes on it but I never did finish a review for book one. I did want to finish the trilogy, so here we are. I haven’t completed the review yet, but make sure to subscribe so you do not miss it!
April Stragglers
Back in April I read The Oracle of Dusk by Elyse Thomson and Enchantra by Kaylie Smith but the reviews only went up this month.
The Wicked Games Continue in Enchantra by Kaylie Smith

“If you wanted to be choked, all you had to do was ask,” he murmured as he crouched before her, reaching up to brush the pad of his thumb over the tender skin of her throat. “I wouldn’t have left any marks.”
Enchantra by Kaylie Smith was my favorite read of April. Which honestly is no surprise as I also loved the first book in Smith’s Wicked Games series, Phantasma. I am so excited because we will be getting a third book in the series as well. Which is awesome.

The Oracle of Dusk Arc Review

I received an advanced copy of The Oracle of Dusk by Elyse Thomson back in March in exchange for my honest opinions. I was stoked to get into this one, as it is inspired by The Legend of Zelda – and let me tell you, the inspiration was everywhere!

What to expect in June
That’s it for May friends. Make sure you subscribe to my blog to be notified first when a new review goes up! I’m still working on getting the search, categories and tags section of my blog up and running the way I want.
Also make sure you hop over to Instagram and give me a follow there! I’m working on a more consistent posting schedule. But you get a bit more insight to the books I am reading and what reviews to expect here.
As for what to expect in June, normally I stay away from monthly tbr’s but…
Caught Up by Navessa Allen will be released in June. So you know I will be reading that one ASAP. I fucking loved Lights Out and I will forever be grateful for that book getting me out of the reading slump I was in.
I am currently listening to Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas so there will definitely be a review coming for the first book in the Villains of Lore series. Jury is still out on whether I will continue the series. The second book, Bonds of Hercules, isn’t scheduled for release until the fall.
My Realm of Ruin review will be up sometime in the coming week. I will be reading Realm of Kings so you will likely see that sometime in June as well.
That’s it for now. Happy Reading Friends !
