What a good fucking girl you are.
Spread these pages while you spread your legs.
Let all the unhinged, depraved darkness out.

Did I pick up Unhinged by Steph Macca 100% based on the duet style narration, the narrators, and tropes? Yes. Yes I did. I love a good why choose and while Joe Arden may be a shit person irl, his narration is top tier.

- I love Avery.
- Little Killer
- I’m into Grey.
- No emotional regulation is a bitch.
- Sam’s a dick.
- I counted all his limbs. Dead.
- And I like Theo.
- Parts of this hit a little too close to home.
- Cntrl. Alt. Del. Brain.
- Wait.. did he make the shiv special for this moment?
- It’s definitely the reckless behavior he was talking about.
- Not the morgue!
- Uh oh.
- Poor Grey.
- This isn’t as ‘why choose’ as I anticipated.
- Well fuck.
Unhinged Dance With My Demons Review
“I’m your God now, little killer. And I’m your fucking Devil too.”
Unhinged is the first book in Steph Macca’s dark romance series, Dance With My Demons. Listen, did I think I would go absolutely fucking feral over a why choose asylum romance featuring a fmc with bpd? No. But here we are. I loved every second of this book. In fact I immediately picked up book two, Echoes. And then, I immediately picked up book three, Ravage. I proceeded to be heartbroken because I had to wait for the final book Exile. But fear not my friends, the series is now complete and you do not have to wait.
I’m a monster compared to her. If you put us side by side, she’s a fallen angel and I’m the monster lurking in the shadows.
Our fmc, Avery, arrives at the Lilydale Center after starting a fire that kills her abusive pos father. I loved Avery. She is sarcastic, cynical and also has borderline personality disorder. Having bpd myself, I found a kindred spirit in Avery. I understood and connected with her on a level that I don’t normally get to with characters. While most of Unhinged comes from Avery’s perspective, it is a dual pov story.
Enter Grey, Theo & Damon.
They are all indeed, unfuckinghinged.
I loved Grey and Theo. But it did take me a little longer to warm up to Damon. All three mmc’s are flawed, damaged, trauma fueled, morally grey men. It can be extremely irritating when all the male leads are essentially carbon copies of each other. All three men in Unhinged are very different. The full cast duet narration did help keep all three men distinct. The majority of Unhinged being told from Avery’s point of view also helps to keep them separate.
We are playing a little fast and loose with the why choose label on Unhinged. I have seen comments about it containing cheating. In my opinion Grey and Avery were not in a defined committed relationship, sexual or otherwise. So when Avery and Theo get down and dirty it is not cheating, it is the beginning of the why choose portion of Macca’s story. The series itself, as a whole, is indeed why choose. However, in my opinion, Unhinged is not.
If you are a why choose reader and can handle the triggers and topics- I will forever recommend this series to you. It’s my Roman Empire as they say.
“You did kill me, Avery. It just wasn’t the sweet death I had envisioned.”

“How many seconds do you think it takes for a human heart to stop beating after it’s cut out with a carving knife?” I ask him.
There’s something powerful about lurking in the dark. A predator seeking out prey, in the shadows of the night.
“You taste like heaven and hell all in one,” he muses, holding out his index finger. He brushes my bottom lip, coaxing me to open up.
“You’re going to be the death of me, Avery,” he mutters, leaning down to kiss me. “And I can’t fucking wait.”
